Fluorescent penetrant is applied to parts which
creeps into discontinuities not easily visible
during visual inspection.

The
parts glow green when viewed under black light.

The excess
fluorescent dye is removed.

Developer is
applied to assist in the viewing of discontinuities.
Discontinuities are evaluated to determine the
part's serviceability.
The picture on the left shows a treated part in
black light, and the picture below shows another in
white light.

Below
is an example of a bulkhead with a significant crack
which was discovered during Liquid Penetrant
Inspection.
